Good morning everyone! Here’s the latest edition for November 2018’s #GivingTuesdays articles. This article’s focus is about a more familiar giving. The kind of giving that is seen mostly at the mass right before the Offertory. I’m talking about monetary giving!
Monetary Giving is an effective way to give if you’re not able to give by way of talents or of things already in your possession. There are many organizations that specialize in humanitarian and/or charitable works. The Roman Catholic faith is perhaps the biggest organization that does this. That’s right. Our religion helps out a bunch. And why not? Jesus did after all command us to feed, and clothe his sheep if we love him (John 21:15-17). Charitable acts of the church has always gone hand in hand with the sharing of the Gospel. Let’s not forget that Jesus did not come to aid the healthy; but the sick (Luke 5:31). So how is our Roman Catholic Church able to help the poor? Through her faithful people! through you! The collection basket that comes around you before the Offertory is basically how each parish is able to help the poor and to help keep the doors open. The church has to pay to keep its own doors open and to help the needy! Throughout the calendar year any parish may run a special campaign that helps out a particular section for the needy. So in giving to the church during mass you also give to the poor!
You can also give to charities and organizations of your choice. There are many. They are advertised as well. There is nothing wrong in giving to charities and non-profit organization. My only recommendation is that you do some research about the organization and its principles and how much of your donation will actually go towards its cause and to make sure that you are donating to exactly what you think you are donating to. For example: not too long ago three people started a GoFundMe account and raised over $400,000 for what seemed to be a noble cause. It was later discovered to be a hoax and the persons behind it made lavish purchases. They ended up being arrested and are now facing persecution. One person can even open up a non-profit organization and accept a donation of let’s say $5. Let’s say that out of that $5 only a few cents will only go towards the actual cause of that organization. It’s pretty insane but also legal.
The benefit of giving to the Church is that it is a reputable organization. A reputable organization started by Christ himself over 2000 years ago where the church’s giving is rooted in the message of Jesus Christ’s love for ALL persons in need since day 1. Happy #GivingTuesdays everyone. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions!
Good night/morning until next time! God Bless and Glory to GOD
